Who are the Fox and the Phoenix?
David and Sharon Ello founded their theatre company in 2019 with a simple yet powerful goal: to create life-giving theatre spaces where both audiences and actors feel at home and inspired. Their inaugural production, Not Quite a Christmas Carol, reimagined Dickens’ classic with a fresh and unexpected twist, setting the tone for their company’s unique storytelling approach.
Shortly after finishing their first production, David and Sharon embarked on another great adventure—starting a family. Though their stage expanded beyond the theatre, their vision remained the same. Through education and various theatre experiences, they continue to foster creativity, connection, and meaningful artistic expression in every space they touch.
About the Instructor:
David Ello has worked in educational theatre for over 15 years, directing and teaching a wide range of young people at institutions such as Emerald City Theatre School in Chicago, IL, InterActive Theater in Houston, TX, and New York University.
As a full-time theatre educator, he has served in both the New York Department of Education and Chicago Public Schools. David currently serves as the Drama teacher at Old Orchard Junior High where he continues to inspire diverse groups of students through engaging theatre education and performance opportunities.
David holds a Master of Arts degree in Educational Theatre from New York University and earned his Illinois State Professional Educator License with a K-12 Drama/Theatre endorsement. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre from the University of Houston, specializing in acting and directing.
With a high-energy, enthusiastic approach, David is dedicated to creating transformative theatre experiences that build students' performance skills and personhood at the same time. David's goal is for students to emerge with greater confidence, communication, and creativity that will set the stage for success in all spheres of life.
